We are thrown back into the world of Mercy and Adam as things have seemed to finally have settled down after the events of the crazy witches. Well, I am happy to say that this was a wonderful book. Is it too much? Has the story arc been done too much? Every so often, those thoughts do pop up. First of all - you are excited to see the next story arc and thrilled to be able to get back into a world that you have grown to love, yet in a way, you can also be nervous that this world has been utilized a lot. When you have gotten this far into a series - this is the 13th book - you find out that you can have conflicting thoughts. What can I say? I was excited to see that there was a new book coming out in this series and I hit the "buy" button the day it came out. Did she not gain being able to see in people’s soul?! That’s a major enhancement to me. Side note I saw a lower review say that in every book Mercy’s power enhances in someway but she she didn’t this book. I actually couldn’t even imagine enjoying the story as much without her narration. Lorelei King always does such an amazing job narrating. I always feel like Patricia does the research and fills us in on lore and 2.

The reason this book is getting a 4 instead of a 3 (so much recap and no real progression of the story) for me is because 1. This book is definitely more of a filler to transition into future plots. The whole Sherwood and Charles situations are also unresolved which I guess are setups for coming books. I was a little confused trying to comprehend Stephen’s dream. I’m also glad that Warren’s issue was small and not another potential burden. We’ve always known that Zee is dangerous but I actually LOVED how protective he is of Tad. With that being said, I’d say about 40% of the book is recap. Especially because I didn’t remember Mercy had siblings and that Adam’s pack came from New Mexico. The author does a great job of bringing up the history of the series without it seeming like it’s repetitive and droning on. I usually don’t like when authors reflect on things we already know from previous books. I do prefer that than the over the top, no way Mercy should be alive plot. A few times while listening to the book I thought, well nothing is really happening. We got further insight on the vampires, specifically Wulfe. This one was a little toned down and way more reasonable and I liked it. The last couple of books have been a little over dramatic for me.
